This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year my students will start at a distance, but that does not mean we will be alone. They will have the opportunity to join a community of students that will support each other and work to grow socially, emotionally, and academically. My students set their expectations high and continue to prove to me that they can accomplish anything.

My students are ready to embrace distance learning and have accepted the challenge of learning amidst a pandemic.

Their tenacity, creativity, and humor will serve them well as we tackle the challenges of distance learning.

My Project

These materials will allow students to build an appreciation for literature, expand social emotional learning, and nurture imagination. Both Matilda and Crenshaw are novels that will connect with my students. Matilda a young girl that loves school but gets very little support and Crenshaw, a novel about a boy whose family is battling homelessness.

Students will be inspired and feel connected with both of these impactful characters.

I want my students to feel heard and have their unique experiences validated.

We will use these novels to explore experiences of children, while also working on standards based skills. My hope is to inspire my students to be changemakers in their communities.
