Help me give my students a class set of ukuleles. Students will love this beautiful instrument and its endless creative possibilities. A contribution will benefit future music makers for years to come! Thank you!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Playing the ukulele is a joyful experience that encourages creativity, musicianship, and responsibility. Learning an instrument requires the development of skills that span many content areas. Students will connect the history with the development of the instrument, discover the acoustics of the instrument and the science of how sound is made. They will practice tuning, strumming, hand coordination, singing, collaborative playing, and learn the responsibility of caring for an instrument.
Coming from a Title I school, many of my students may not have the opportunity to play instruments at home or engage in extracurricular opportunities outside of school.
My students are joyful, wonderfully curious, and eager to learn. An opportunity to learn an instrument like the ukulele would provide them with many cognitive benefits as I previously mentioned, but would also instill a sense of responsibility, pride, and an outlet for musical expression they may not otherwise have. I hope to provide them with as many musical opportunities as possible, so they can make the most of their time in music and leave confident, well-rounded music makers!
