My Project
My students are immigrants from all around the world. In quarter 3, we read this book about an immigration story, work with past tense, and write our own immigration stories to present to an audience.
This book shows diverse characters that reflect student’s lived experiences and has accessible language for our targeted unit.
A class set would help each student be able to see the images in person instead of just having the text. This would allow them to contextualize the story and see the different scenarios to work with language features such as past tense. Including a limited number of Spanish copies for new students that start midway through the year and would access content better in native language. The Spanish copies will also be extra support for Spanish speakers who have interrupted education and need more native language literacy support.
