We are a public charter school located near the University of South Florida. Our students enter via a lottery system so we have a heterogeneous group of students by socio-economic status and ethnicity.
We have a back to basics philosophy with our education.
The core subjects are the focus and even the electives support the natural sciences, language arts, mathematics, and social sciences. Our school is held accountable to all requirements that the State of Florida Department of Education mandates. The students take all state level assessments.
Students would not have to worry about forgetting their calculators in math class! They can use the class set and return them at the end of the period. Also, even though we do not teach to the test, I do not want my students to get answers incorrect because of their unfamiliarity with the tech. A class set of CASIO calculators means that they would understand the functions of the EOC/FSA calculators our school uses and not be caught unawares of the keyboarding structure of entering in data. Example: do you type (-) before entering the number or after the digit is displayed? This is a real concern with my students.
