My students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds at a school where over 40% students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Families come from all over the world, and kids come to class in various states of readiness to learn. All want to learn, and love to learn.
Feeding and observing the birds in our community will help instill a love of nature and care for the planet.
My Project
We would love to attach some bird feeders to our classroom windows so we can care for and watch the birds during the school day! In 6th grade, students in my district attend Outdoor Education, where they gain an appreciation for nature and the outdoors. I would love to bring Outdoor Ed to the classroom by incorporating bird feeding and watching in my classroom!
Class pets are so much fun for kids, but can take a lot of work and effort.
Using these bird feeders and identifying the bird types will be a fun part of our classroom culture, with minimal upkeep on my end. Kids will have the responsibility of feeding and caring for the feeders, but nothing will die if someone forgets!
