Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My class will be reading both books as a class. This will enable us to have class discussions about our reading. Reading Esperanza Rising as a class is a culturally relevant book since 77% of my students are Hispanic.
Most of my students will be able to relate to the background and culture of the main character.
Some may even relate to some of her feelings and struggles and she learns to adjust to life in the United States. The other book is relating history to my students because the story is told from the perspective of a young person about the same age. I am hoping this will get my students more excited to learn history.
