Class Needs Chromebooks, Phase 2

My students need three Chromebooks. When used effectively, technology and content can combine to transform learning through creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving.

My Students

I want my students to achieve their highest potential when we reach the end of the year. I need to prepare them for middle school and the world. The challenge my students and I face is the lack of technology that all can access at once. These computers will be a first step to solve this problem.

I teach fourth grade students at a low SES, Title I school.

My kids are 9 & 10 years old, and many don't have access to the Internet or computers at home. Teaching computer skills and implementing technology in my lessons is imperative for their learning. “If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.” ~John Dewey

My Project

There are so many online resources, the possibilities are endless. I just need a way for my kids to access them. I have signed all of my students up for khanacademy.org, where they can take on learning head first. I will implement using this site for math and extension work. I will also use a variety of other sites such as sumdog, youtube for schools, tedtalks, studyjams, i-Ready, brainpop, and many more. Thanks to donors like you, I already was able to get a set of three Chromebooks. Now with these three I can have a full center of six set up for my class of 30.

The Chromebooks will be a wonderful device for learning.

My kids will access Google Apps for Education tools. The students will always stay productive, even when they are disconnected from the web. They could create and share documents with built-in Google Apps for Education, explore another country on Google Maps, or watch a video about the rock cycle on YouTube EDU. I could continue to improve learning by finding new educational apps as they appear on the market. Learning will stay current.
