My Students

With smart phones, video games, and TV, my students have forgotten the joys of getting lost in a book.

Most of my students come from middle income families.

They have access to plenty of technology, but have rarely ever had a classroom library filled with engaging, entertaining stories that they would read. They are smart, motivated, on level students.

My Project

Most students only read when the teacher requires them to--and then they only read the school curriculum. The literature I have requested will help start my classroom library. These novels, short stories, and plays not only are recommend in the new common core state standards, but are highly engaging for readers of any age.

Public schools today have done a very good job of taking the joy out of reading.

Through silent sustained reading and a 'take-a-book, leave-a-book' classroom library, I am hoping to instill a life-long love of reading in my students.
