This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a high poverty community. The school that they attend is a Title 1 school and all of the students receive a free breakfast and lunch. They come from all different types of backgrounds and lifestyles, making for some challenging learning experiences.
Regardless of their hardships, they are hard and dedicated workers.
Every day these students walk through the school doors with a smile on their face. They are eager and excited to learn something new. They love learning by using hands on manipulatives, creating projects, and using technology.
My Project
All of my students love to read. Sometimes so much, that they ask to take the book home to finish reading it, instead of playing video games.
The classroom library has been well loved over the years.
The books have been read so much, that they are in their final stages of use. Many of these books are taped back together or rebounded with staples. When books look like this, students often turn away from them. They fear pages might be missing or words are hard to see. Having an updated classroom library can help re-engage their love for reading and get them excited all over again.
