Class Library Reference Books Needed for Our Classroom!

My students need various books to provide us access to higher level, older age appropriate materials that challenge their creativity and intellectual pursuits. These include The Gangs of New York, Crack City and Dispatches from Juvenile Hall.

My Students

Hmmm, so many of our classroom books and workbook materials look like they are made for students much younger than ours.

We have had much older students than usual lately and they are beginning to resent how much of our materials look like they are for kids much much younger than these kids actually are.

One way to resolve this is to boost the in class literacy center for older, more mature and higher level students with materials relating to their immediate interests that doesn't "talk down to them".

My Project

We need various books to provide us access to higher level, older age appropriate materials that challenge their creativity and intellectual pursuits. These include The Gangs of New York, Crack City and Dispatches from Juvenile Hall. This wonderful and eclectic selection of books will do wonders for our classroom literacy center and in particular the students who have come into our classroom this school year. These books adhere to particular subjects and themes that are of great interest to our more mature readers.

I recently had the second ever student who had never finished a complete book at all in my classroom and these books are close in subject matter and interest for him and others like him I am so eager and excited to see their reaction given the chance to read these vital and interesting books in their self directed activities and reading/writing centers.
