My third grade students are bright and enthusiastic. They meet my challenging project assignments with creativity and persistence. They attend a very small "gifted magnet" in a public school that is in an urban neighborhood that would be considered poor. Their parents have high expectations for their children, but funding in public schools is difficult right now and funding for "gifted" students is at a new low.
My students learn to write thematic scripts, shoot and edit video, and produce a DVD.
We're known for our videos and for our musical productions every year but the laptop we have been using for the last 8 years is old and very slow. We hope to acquire a new laptop to use with all our projects.
My Project
We need a new laptop that will work well with newer Mac operating systems and the current editing and animation software. My students learn to edit in FinalCut Pro. They need to have access to the software that will be possible with a newer laptop computer. Writing and editing a video is an amazing accomplishment for my students and they are very proud every year to say that they are able to produce something on their own. Producing a video or an animation requires writing a well-edited script and planning how it will be shot and edited. Students experience first hand how much it takes to complete just a few minutes of video or animation. Their understanding of television and film and how they view it is changed forever.

Our old laptop has been a workhorse for us but it is too old now to function well with a newer operating system and new software. Help us get one new MacBook Pro laptop that we can use for our projects this year and in the years to come.
