My Students

Do you remember being stuck in a classroom all day? Could you imagine if you were given the opportunity to learn outdoors? Our students are inquisitive, energetic, curious, and always ready for a challenge.

Our students come to school with stories and questions that change my perspective of things on a daily basis.

They love to share, be challenged, take chances, and beam with pride when they succeed.

Many of my students come from city homes where there is little opportunity or room to play outdoors.

My goal is to give my students the opportunity to work and learn together in an outdoor environment that will keep them excited, interested, and motivated. I want them to have the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air while learning about the world around them!

My Project

These materials will be used to create an outdoor classroom that can be utilized by all grades in my school. Learning in a natural environment will grow my students' capacity to wonder about their surroundings while gaining a new appreciation for the outdoors. Since many of my students lack natural outdoor space at their homes and since their socioeconomic situations limit their abilities to travel, immersing them in nature will provide a greater perspective and understanding of their surroundings.

Students will be able to use this classroom space without transporting seating, tables, clipboards, or other classroom materials.

These items will be conveniently stored in the buckets, ready to be used by any student.

I plan to use these items when exploring our buildings' new pollinator garden which was recently planted. As our curriculum regularly incorporates STEM, these simple material swill allow us to explore science, technology, art and mathematics in a natural environment. Additionally, as we have learned in dealing with education during the pandemic, our kids need fresh air to stay healthy.
