This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every year students look forward to the dissection projects at the end of our anatomy and ecology units. It really helps cement for them how the different parts of the body work together. With the recent budget cuts we are unable to fund our usual supplies.

My students are 10th graders at a public high School in NYC.

They love working with supplies and doing hands on activities. Through out the year we try to do many different labs that help engage the students with the subject matter. Many of my students are visual learners and these supplies will provide them with a different way to understand how their bodies work.

My Project

Students will do a dissection on the rat at the end of our anatomy unit. At that point we will have learned about the different organ systems in the body. One of the things that really helps them in their understanding of the body is being able to see how the different organs are connected. For example when we dissect the urinary system they can actually see how the kidneys connect to the ureters and how they lead to the bladder. It truly gives them a different perspective on the material. It is also something that they always remember from the class.

My students are very grateful for all the help and supplies that they receive.

The dissections are a great learning experience for them and help teach the material to students with different learning styles. Thank you for considering our project.
