My Students
My students come in eager and excited to learn everyday. They are excited to see what story I will read them each day. Even though many of my students eat breakfast at school they are more worried about when we are getting our snack then what they are learning about.
In my past 5 years of being at this school I would say half of my students have experienced childhood trauma.
My class is from 9 different ethnic groups. Several of my students are from refugee families. Most days someone is coming in with events from home that need time to be process. We use Boys Town social skills to teach them how they are to behave at school and at home. Many of the kids are struggling to be on grade level.
My Project
I have a large space in my room that I would like to have a carpet big enough for all of my students to fit on. I have one from my house that is falling apart and can't stay still. I would also like a carpet so all of my class can fit on it, right now only 12 of my kids can fit on it. And my new friends seem a little sad that they don't have a carpet to sit on.
I would also love to have a place to gather to have books read to them.
We also go around the carpet to make a math lessons. Right now the kids don't have enough space. It would be wonderful if all the kids can see what we are working on in math.
