This year I'm teaching in a Title school with an approximately 50% free and reduced price lunch rate. My students are a very diverse population speaking multiple different languages. All students have very different learning needs, but they show up every day excited and ready to learn.
I have such a fun, energetic group of students this year!
They are excited about learning. They are very interested in science and I hope to inspire that same level of interest for reading.
My students will be using these books to learn about the Civil Rights movement through a whole class read aloud and leveled book clubs! These books will greatly benefit my students in their study of this important time in our country's history.
We will be reading the historical fiction book Glory Be as a whole class to both deepen our understanding of Civil Rights and social responsibility as well as further our reading comprehension skills.
Students will then transfer the skills acquired during the read aloud into their leveled book club reading assignments which touch on issues surrounding this same historical time period.
