My students are amazing and I care for them deeply. The majority of my students are Black and Brown people. Many of them come from low income families, and most of them are autistic. They are learning to become active members of our society.
Books and stories are wonderful materials used to focus on civic learning.
Many of my students struggle with learning fairness as it relates to being part of a community. I would love to teach them to value diversity, feel a sense of self and appreciation as it relates to their culture. I would like to teach them to feel like they know what to do when they encounter inequity. This can be done through the books I have requested. I have also requested a small rolling storage unit for books and other teaching supplies.
