My Students

Fourth grade is a huge year for kids to grow and explore the world. My students are extremely curious and kind humans who love to learn about others and the world. They love to use hands-on materials to understand difficult concepts and to problem solve. Within my classroom, we have over a dozen languages and cultures represented. Our classroom diversity provides an amazing environment for us all to learn from each other every day. As a community, we strive to think critically and treat one another with respect and kindness! It is essential that we have the community materials we need to learn and grow together.

My Project

"Was that fair?", "Where does this come from?", "But why did this happen?" and "What can we do about this?" My 4th grade students are extremely curious about the world around them. They want to learn about social justice issues and understand how they can impact their communities today. Social studies is one of the most important content areas in school and we need relevant texts to support this work.

It is essential that students learn about our country's history and how to engage with difference - both of ideas and cultures in a positive way - so that they can make change!

These books will support inquiry units on First Nation tribes, immigration, civil rights, and student advocacy! We will learn about Northwest Tribes in our region, reasons for immigration, histories of prejudice and discrimination, and how we can advocate for issues we care about today. Learning about these issues and discussing them together feels like the most important work we can do in school. Thank you for your support on this project.
