Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Look! I made the light turn on!" My 5th grade students get so excited when they make a simple closed circuit and the light comes on!

My 34 fifth grade students come from a low income neighborhood in Southern California.

More than 96% of the students are on the free and reduced lunch program. The majority of the students in my classroom, and at our school of almost 1000 students, are second language learners. With limited resources at home it is important that I provide my students with as many hands on activities as possible in the classroom.

My Project

After learning about closed circuits, open circuits, parallel circuits, and series circuits, students will be able to build their own circuits using the materials supplied by Donors Choose. With the lamps, switches, alligator clips, battery holders, and D cell batteries, the students will be able to have these hands on materials to build their own circuits. After learning about the various types of circuits, I have students in small groups where they can explore the information and concepts we just learned using these supplies. My 5th grade students get so excited when they learn how to create their own closed-circuit and the lights turn on!

With a limited budget in education these days, it is important that I find other funding sources for my classroom supplies.

These supplies will be used for many years to come, not just this year. Thank you for considering our project.
