Imagine you live in a rural community that is quickly changing to a suburban population. Your school is crowded, your classes have different faces each year, and your teachers are working hard to keep up with the changing demographics. This is the community that I teach in. We are a low income school with a majority of our population living in poverty. Our campus is full of 1400 eager children under the age of 11. Each one is excited and ready for the opportunities we can provide them. Unfortunately, it is often difficult for our small district to meet the demands of our increasing population. We are experiencing the most significant growing pains in our science department. In an area where it is impossible for parents to supplement our gap at home, it is up to the teachers to attempt this daunting task.
Fourth Grade is the first time students are introduced to the concept of electrical circuits. Students love to use wires and batteries to make electrical circuits to power lights and buzzers. They enjoy experimenting with multiple batteries, various switches, and a multitude of ways to use wires to make complete circuits.
Kids get excited about science when there are important hands on opportunities in the classroom.
The Discover electric circuit kits will supply my students with the basic building blocks of a simple electrical circuit. The snap circuit kits will provide over 100 exciting projects as an extension to the science curriculum.
