Circle Up! Elementary School Social Skills

My Project

As a school counselor and Social Emotional Learning teacher at a Title 1 school in Flagstaff, I get the privilege of teaching every single one of our amazing students. Our K-5 students are mostly from the surrounding neighborhood, and we have the largest population of Indigenous K-5 students in Flagstaff. I strive to make my classroom a community that celebrates every student's unique abilities, culture and awesome personality!

As part of our social emotional lessons, I often facilitate Circle time, where students sit on the floor in a circle and practice vital social skills like respectful listening, public speaking, and taking turns!

Unfortunately I have been unable to find a classroom rug for students to sit on without spending hundreds of dollars out of my own pocket. Right now, students sit on the hard floor. I want to give them a comfortable rug that reflects how I want them to feel in my classroom: safe and and celebrated.

I am also raising money for each student to have their own folder in my classroom. This way I can collect every student's work individually, creating a comprehensive portfolio for each student by the end of the year.
