My students are bilingual students coming from different places of Latin America. They have a great attitude about learning and it is at full display as they respect each other taking turns to participate and share their stories. They are independent but innocent. As young, early readers they have much to learn and share. They come full of energy ready to learn and connect with their classmates every morning. They come ready to engage and positively contribute to the class bringing they unique personalities every morning.
My Project
This item will become part of the morning reading session. As the rug becomes part of the designated reading space it helps structure expectations. As students sit comfortably it helps students make positive connections with each other as they share personal stories or bring their imagination to light. Incorporating reading every morning builds a reading habit and develops a love for reading in a child's life. Reading and reflecting on what is being read while making connections to concepts develops critical thinking skills which is beneficial in students lives. A comfortable colorful rug also creates a safe classroom environment for learning.
