My students need a parachute, parachute play CDs, bean bag sets, ribbon wands and colored scarves for creative expression, movement, rhythm games and teamwork.
I teach General Music to Kindergarten and First Grade students. I am always looking for ways to encourage children to learn and create through the arts and music.
The students I teach are high-need with a large percentage of special education, free and reduced lunch students and minorities. Over a third of the parents in our school district do not have a high school diploma.
Our rural community is in an economically depressed area with a very high unemployment rate. Funding was dramatically cut by the state legislature this year, so purchasing supplies for the music classroom is nearly impossible. Enrichment through Donor's Choose is just what my students need to help them learn basic rhythmic skills and express themselves!
My students need a parachute, parachute play Cd's, bean bags, colored scarves and colored ribbon wands for creative expression, movement and most of all FUN! These items also help with students gross motor skills, eye-hand coordination, teamwork and endurance. Students can use scarves and ribbon wands for directionality and right/left discrimination while using various learning styles such as kinesthetic learning, tactile learning, visual learning and auditory learning. All of these items can be adapted for our special education students as well.
With the help of Donor's Choose, my students will be able to inspire their creativity, get in touch with their feelings and emotions and move and dance to the beat! Help us "'Chute' for Learning" in our music classroom!
