My Students
The Digital Divide is real, and it is a disadvantage to many of my students.
My school has over 70% free and reduced price lunch.
We are an urban school, and a racially and culturally diverse one. Students' families and the school do what we can with limited resources, but this project would be a huge benefit to my class, my department, and the school.
My Project
Students are excited at the idea of laptops, especially Chromebooks. We currently use Google Docs (or Google Drive now) in the computer lab, and would love the chance to use these laptops. Most of them have never had a brand new computer, stuck with family or school hand-me-downs, so this would be an even greater gift.
My department shares a mobile lab.
At least, this project would allow the rest of my department to use them more frequently, since my class would have the Chromebooks. If we can get the logistics to work out, it will not only benefit my 100 students, but the 1500 my department teaches.
