This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are kindergartners who are eager to learn as much as they can. They are English Language Learners who will first learn how to read in their native language which is Spanish, and then - once they've progressed enough - they will learn to read in English. Some of them have special needs, and they all come from a high poverty area: 95% poverty. It is not uncommon for their parents to hold two or three jobs! Despite all of this, my students come to school happy and eager to learn!

My Project

Due to lack of funds, it is impossible to ask for anything other than chairs and tables! I must make my classroom an inviting, rich, and learning environment for all of my eager students. This is where I need your help with an important resource for our classroom: two Chromebooks, two wireless mice, and two headphones. It is essential to a decent learning environment for various reasons most pressingly, my students must be able to learn their letters, sounds, and ultimately, read and write. With the advancement of learning programs, two Chromebooks will surely cater to all of my students diverse needs, giving them access to many useful skill specific learning tools. They must also take mandated assessments three times per year on a computer. The use of Chromebooks will surely prepare them for these challenging assessments!

Having two Chromebooks in our classroom will not only help my students with differentiated learning in skills that are needed, it will also allow them to practice using a form of technology, something fundamentally basic to even being able to take a test.

Many of my students do not have any type of technology or Internet at home! Your generosity would truly help us to bring our classroom into the 21st century! On behalf of my students and I, thank you so much!
