My students are from Chester, Pennsylvania and surrounding districts and go to a charter school. This year we opened a new campus in Aston, Pennsylvania and I am teaching 6th grade English Language Arts. This is my second year teaching, and I am excited to continue to work with my classes!
Our new school is a great building, but we are lacking vital resources that many schools have, and in return, it is difficult to provide students with comparable resources to suburban schools.
Our school serves students whose families are all below the poverty line, and each student is eligible for free lunch and breakfast. The Town of Chester has the highest homicide rate in the country, and these students need help from anyone who can.
I am looking to add three more Chromebooks to my classroom to help with our ongoing literacy projects!
Last year I worked on a project with the class when using the book Holes, and the students created their own plays for the story. They recreated their scenes and added their own twists. Unfortunately, each group only had access to one computer during this, and this made it hard for the groups to collaborate.
By having a few more Chromebooks in the classroom, I would be able to utilize Google Classroom in a more efficient way, and the students would be able to work on their play writing together and not have to all share one computer screen!
