As an experienced Math teacher of middle school students, grades 6-8, I have watched education change throughout the years. The one-to-one devices, the internet, and the vast number of applications that students can access provide new forms of teaching and learning. Online learning provides teachers the ability to teach and differentiate instruction in ways they never could before. The students in my current 7th and 8th grade classrooms have a wide range of abilities, however, they all have one thing in common, they all desire the opportunity to learn. Access to Chromebooks in my classroom, would provide students of all ability levels, the opportunity to access new material, manipulate their own thinking in a virtual way, and solidify their understanding of classroom concepts.
Students will learn mathematical concepts and broaden their understanding of the digital world by using technology in the classroom.
My students are eager to learn, and I am eager to provide them the opportunity being provided to many other students who have access to technology. The students are a group of diverse 7th and 8th graders from a suburban school with approximately 900 students.
My Project
I am requesting 4 Chromebooks for student access in my classroom. These devices will be used for projects and accessing online 'classrooms' such as Google Classroom. Students will gain access to a virtual world of information much more readily with classroom access to Chromebooks. They will be able to explore real-world mathematical concepts, ask their own mathematical questions, and answer those questions in a technological way. For example, they may create slide shows, documents, and presentations to share their learning with peers. They will also have the ability to collaborate with other students on the same projects via the use of Google applications, or any other applications now available to them with Chromebooks. Asking mathematical questions, exploring a virtual world of information to answer that question, and sharing information with peers, are things that would be possible for my students through the use of Chromebooks. Technology is evolving at an astronomical rate. Access to technology and devices are vital to the success of today's students. The goal of my teaching is to not only teach students the material they are required to learn while they are in my classroom, but also to prepare them with skills that will transfer into the coming years. My goal with this project, is to do just that.
