My Students

My students come from low-income families, and are often labeled at-risk due to the circumstances they come from. Most of my students do not have reliable access to technology, and other resources, beyond the walls of our school. Many of my students live in neighborhoods where it essentially isn't safe to be outside, which limits their access to what would appear to be available resources. We are a Title I school, and last year around 80% of our students received free/reduced lunch. Our school is the largest school in the largest district in Kentucky. We have over 40 nationalities represented among our student body, and students come to our school from all over Louisville, from Jeffersontown to Portland.

My Project

The Chromebooks provided by this project will enhance the learning opportunities for all students in my classroom. Having technology in the classroom allows the teacher to accommodate for many different learning styles, increases student collaboration, and better prepares them for future careers. Integrating technology increases student engagement and helps reinforce the increasingly important value of digital citizenship, using devices correctly and responsibly. Access to technology also teaches students responsibility, by taking ownership of a valuable device and practicing good decision-making.

Students have access to an incredible amount of new opportunities. From learning how to code to learning how to better collaborate across teams and with their instructors--technology empowers students to be more creative and be more connected. New tech has super-charged how we learn today.
