I teach fourth grade at a school in Jasper, Tennessee. I️ am in a self contained classroom in a Title 1 school ranging from pre-k to fourth grade with approximately 730 students total. The majority of my students come from a single parent home and receive back pack food to take home on the weekends.
My classroom is always fun and energetic because all of my students come to class every day with a passion for school and desire to learn.
These students are loving and kind to one another, as well as their teachers. My kids inspire me because they are so eager to explore the world and learn as much as possible, but our rural setting makes that difficult. Ever-growing technological advances would help my students, and students to come, learn about the world outside of Small Town, Tennessee and prepare them for life after fourth grade and beyond.
My Project
Having a classroom set of Chromebooks would not only aid in my students’ learning, but this addition to the classroom will also teach important basic technological skills which they will need to succeed in the future. In this digital age, not having access to the internet is ultimately a disservice to our children. Recently, my class went on a virtual tour of the Mayflower. If we had multiple Chromebooks, we could “visit” many more historical sites to experience more. These Chromebooks will also serve as the basis for Google Classroom Assignments, MobyMax, and Reflex Math. Students deserve to have access to all the tools that will help them succeed and these Chromebooks will do exactly that. Having technology in my classroom will further my students’ education as well as enrich their experience in school, sparking a new desire to learn.
