My students need access to two Chromebooks with sleeves for STEM projects.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Lyons's classroom raised $557
This project is fully funded
My Students
Even as technology becomes more affordable and internet access seems increasingly ubiquitous, a “digital divide” between rich and poor remains. More than HALF of our students DO NOT have access to computers and the internet at home. Our school was recently wired for wireless access but we DO NOT have nearly enough computers. Ongoing and computer based, the students do not have access to practice and are missing points because of the technology and not the content.
Our students are in a high poverty urban school in Maryland.
About 94% of our students are considered below the poverty line and receive Free or Reduced Meals (FARMS).
About 20% are coming to us through the refugee center. They have many and varied educational experiences depending on the culture they had to flee from.
We also have a large number of special needs students.
My Project
Chromebooks in the library will give my students the access to use and familiarize themselves with a tool that will be a necessity for their success in their educational future. This is the first of many and varied grants in order to obtain a classroom set. Although our school has a computer lab, scholars are limited to 45 minutes once a week.
A set of Chromebooks will help STEM projecta to close the "digital divide" in our school.
All students will be able to learn and practice using technology in their library classes. Students will not miss out on important resources and skills they need to be successful in school and beyond.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
