"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandela
Students at D Elementary show up each day eager to learn and grow.
About 25% of our students are English Learners, while 45% of our students are economically disadvantaged (participate in Free/Reduced Lunch Program). Our learners have different academic needs. Some students need more support to reach proficiency levels in Reading and Math. Other students need to be challenged so that they can grow beyond required proficiency levels.
We are working hard to foster a growth mindset in students by teaching them that with effort, they can grow their brains and learn new things. Having such motivated learners is inspiring as a teacher, and I am constantly looking for new ways to push and challenge all my students. Having more computers in my classroom will allow for this!
My Project
In my classroom, students will be utilizing these Chromebooks in many different ways. Our new math curriculum has a digital component for students to access in order to complete assignments, practice & learn new math skills, and differentiate instruction. Without having enough computers, we are not able to fully utilize this resource. We also use Google Classroom as a gateway to many different types of assignments & projects. Students are able to work on writing, research, create presentations, collaborate with their classmates digitally, receive feedback and suggestions from their teacher on their assignments, practice close reading skills, access various websites with different learning tools, as well as many other computer based projects which help prepare them for our technological world.
The more opportunities we can give students with technology, the better prepared our students will be for the real world.
As a school, we are committed to having a computer for every child.
The affordability of these Chromebooks makes this an attainable goal. We realize the unlimited potential technology gives students as well as the increased engagement and ownership students have in their learning. Getting these extra computers into my classroom will help us get closer to that goal and prepare our students with the necessary 21st century skills they need as they go out and find their way in the world!
