Chromebooks Make Literate Readers

My students need five Chromebooks to access various online books and programs to improve their reading proficiency and vocabulary skills.

My Students

"You're off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting so . . . Get on your way!" ~ Dr. Seuss This quote summarizes my belief that each of these children has unlimited potential just waiting to be unlocked.

This year, I am teaching in a third grade classroom in a rural community with limited resources.

My students' reading abilities range from between first grade to fifth grade. All of them have different talents and needs, as each comes from different home environments. Seventy-five percent of my students are considered economically disadvantaged.

My Project

Reading and technology skills are essential for anyone who will succeed in our society. This project will enable me to provide both these skills to students in need. I am looking to provide five Chromebooks for student use.

These will be used daily in my classroom as a technology tool for my students to gain reading, vocabulary, and keyboarding skills.

They will also help my students during their writing and research activities.

In addition, some of my students have fine motor skill issues that they are working on but keep them from successfully completing handwritten assignments. The use of Google Docs on the Chromebooks will aid in their ability to express their thoughts and complete their work.

This will also help my students gain essential computer skills they will need in the future. Their economic situation hinders many of their families from having this type of technology in the home and access to this in the classroom gives them opportunities beyond their means.
