My Students

Do you remember the first time you made an amazing discovery in science? I like to teach science using experiments and hands-on projects. One of the problems I'm running into is trying to point out scientific terms on small objects or trying to let everyone get a good look at a class experiment.

I teach 6th grade math and science in a middle school in Missouri.

Half of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. My students love science class where they get to perform experiments and complete engineering tasks.

My Project

Our new math series has an amazing online component that allows extra practice and instruction for the students. It allows me to create custom assignments for each student, permitting me to differentiate lessons to meet their individual needs. These lessons must be completed on a computer.

Unfortunately, many of my students do not have personal computers and internet access at home.

Our 6th graders do not have permanent computers in the classroom. Laptop carts must be reserved ahead of time, and are not guaranteed to be available. Having Chromebooks in the classroom will assure that I can provide online personalized lessons for my higher need students every day. In addition, I plan to utilize Chromebooks in my science classes by having students work in teams to access online videos, simulations, and to create projects demonstrating what they have learned.

My students will not be hindered from a lack of technology in our classroom.
