My Students
Second grade is a time when students start to tackle more advanced writing projects, read a wider variety of texts, and solve more complex math problems — while spending more time at their desks than in the past. Keeping these energetic, ambitious seven- and eight-year old students engaged is critical to their success.
Our school serves scholars from a historically underserved population and community in San Francisco, CA.
All of our students qualify to receive free breakfast and lunch services. While our teachers, administrators, and staff members strive to deliver the highest quality education possible, we are still in need of materials for our students.
My Project
Currently, one laptop cart (with ~20 computers) is shared between four classrooms (with ~80 kids), making it difficult to provide my students with daily access to technology. Having computers available for independent or small group work throughout the day would increase engagement across all subject areas.
Chromebooks allow students to collaborate on research projects, read new books, master math skills — all while developing the typing and technology skills they'll need for future grades.
With the addition of Chromebooks in our classroom, students will be able to type and publish their writing using Google Docs, gain access to thousands of digital books, and practice their math skills using Khan Academy.
(The headphones will ensure that students can work on the Chromebooks without disrupting their classmates.)
