My students need Chromebooks to use in writing and all subject areas. My goal is to have a device for each student to use. These Chromebooks will be used daily for writing, research, and all subjects!
My students are kind and eager to learn. They work so hard every day and are especially excited in anything that involves technology.
I have seen such amazing progress with even the most reluctant writers when they move from pencil and paper to the computer screen.
My school is a public school located in Malden, MA. We are a K-8 school, with 897 students currently enrolled. Students at this school come from a variety of economic backgrounds. About sixty-two percent come from low income families. Many children are first and second generation immigrants. The diversity in this school is magnificent, we speak many languages-French Creole, Chinese, Portuguese, Spanish, and English. We celebrate how fortunate we are to educate so many children from all over the world.
Located north of Boston, our district is extremely ethnically diverse; over 60 languages are spoken throughout the district. In addition, many of our students receive reduced or free lunch.
My Project
These Samsung Chromebooks will make a tremendous impact in my classroom. They will be used to access educational websites and work in all areas of the curriculum, in math and literacy centers, for science research and all throughout the writing process. My students are currently learning how to write a research paper using the IIM Model, and having Chromebooks would allow them not only to do the research required, but to write, edit and revise their work throughout the entire writing process.
In this day and age, technology is fundamental in order to be able to be college and career ready.
These devices would give my students opportunities to delve deeper into their science investigations, exposing them to videos and visuals of things we learn about that we can't experience first hand.
Having this resource will give my students the opportunity to do research and practice important skills throughout the day, every day.
At present, 24 children are sharing 3 devices.
My ultimate goal is to have a device for each student in my classroom.
