Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are budding scientist, They are dedicated and hardworking. They stem from varying socioeconomic backgrounds, and for most of them technology is not readily accessible.
My students are excited about virtual learning and is using google classroom in accomplishing their Research, Lab reports and other Projects.
They try to do the best they can, with the limited technological resources they have at their disposal . However, with enough resources I have no doubt they could reach their full potential and goals.
My Project
My students need 3 more Chromebooks. More computers means fewer students sharing one and therefore more individual access to technology. Our school is a Title I school which is located in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Most of our students travel from the surrounding neighborhoods of Sunset Park, Flatbush, and Red Hook. Our students come from diverse backgrounds, mostly with hard working families that are were not born in the US. Students do not always have technology available for them at home. However, our students love learning through the use of technology.
This year we have setup a virtual classroom and it is truly amazing to see what some of these students can do when they are given the opportunity to get hands on with the technology.
My Project The animations that my students create will help bring science to life by allowing them to show their understanding in a fun, exciting, and creative way. Students are very curious and do a lot of independent research. They will use the requested Chromebooks to research information needed to complete virtual projects.
This year I am hoping to incorporate more cross-curricular subjects like literacy, math, and art! The computers will let students do math tutorials, type up their science lab report, and make creative animations about what they've learned. By targeting these extra subjects, I am hoping to engage students through multiple entry points and show them that science is everywhere.
