This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
How do we keep the children active with modern technology when our school has no budget for technology? Our reading and math state adopted program are both based on technology, but without many computers, we are all very limited.
My students are amazing sponges, just wanting more and more knowledge and information.
Many of my students are English Language Learners and some are the first ones at their homes to learn to read and write in English. For a kindergartner, the challenges of the language and the challenges of the budget cuts can hinder learning. However, even though my school is in a 100% free lunch, economically struggling neighborhood, my students are the future of hope. Although it is years away, for many families in our school, my students are the future and possibly the first in their families to go to college.
Kindergarten is the last grade to get technology. We often get the old and broken hand-me-downs. With this opportunity, many children will have the opportunity to be on the computers much more often.
My Project
I want to offer the children as many materials as possible, so they do not know what they are missing. The computers will really help the children learn while using modern technology. Right now, with limited computers, the students average getting on the computer once every other week. I would like to provide the children with the chance to use the computers more often.
The children love to use a computer-based phonics and reading program. They also love using a computer-based reading and letter recognition program as well as a math program. The computers are used to help all areas in school, and it would greatly help out our class to have these Chromebooks.
My students need 10 Chromebooks in the TK/K classroom. They will provide many more academic opportunities for my students than a photocopy or workbook will provide. The computer allows the children to see visuals, audio, review skills and work at their comfort level.
I am asking for 10 Chromebooks for the classroom.
The Chromebooks will help make the Internet more accessible to the students. The children will be able to see visuals and interact with reading and math programs. These Chromebooks will bring the children so many more opportunities.
