My Students
My students love working on computers, however there are times when a student needs to work on a classroom assignment and there are no available computers. I would like to add three Chromebooks to my classroom so that students have easier full-time access to a readily available computer.
I teach fifth grade in a public school classroom.
Currently, there are 24 students in my class. It is a happy and active classroom full of children who enjoy learning and each other. They enjoy being creative and aspire to do their best in school. The children come from a variety of backgrounds. Our school qualifies as a moderate poverty school.
My Project
The Samsung Chromebook is a netbook styled computer that has many advantages over a netbook. It turns on in seconds (no wasted waiting time) and does not use a Windows operating system. It is used for accessing the Internet using the Google Chrome browser.
Students find it easy to use the Chromebook to access websites in order to reinforce skills taught in the classroom using computer assisted learning over the Internet done at the student's own level and pacing. We also use the Chromebooks to research or work together on small group projects or individual creative projects.
My class enjoys using websites that reinforce the skills related to the Common Core.
Some websites are provided by the school, others are paid for with a subscription price. If we have always available and easy to turn on and use Chromebooks in the classroom, then my students will have the ability to access these sites at any time throughout the school day. They will also be able to use them for projects or group work.
