This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are exposed to a literacy rich environment in my classroom. They really enjoy the reading and writing that we do every day in our class.
My students are 7th graders.
I work at a gifted magnet middle school. I teach English. My students range from gifted, high achieving students, to students with special needs, and those who struggle academically. They are a really amazing, special group of students.
My Project
Literacy today is not just the ability to read a book or write an essay. Today's digital world requires students to be literate in many other ways. For students to survive in this technologically rich world, they need to know how to evaluate sources from the internet, how to create multi-genre presentations, how to create digital stories, how to research topics effectively, and how to utilize the digital information and resources available to them. My students need Chromebooks to learn 21st century technology skills.
My students will learn how to write for the digital world.
They will learn how to evaluate the information on the internet, so they can research topics more effectively. Most importantly, they will learn the 21st Century Skills (that are part of the Common Core Standards for 7th Grade) needed to be successful in today's digital environment.
