Help me give my students chromebooks and myself a printer! I am a disabled teacher teaching students with IEPs. They need these chromebooks to succeed and learn college skills in the classroom!
My students are Special Education students who need all the support they can get and I have decided to take this upon myself. My students know how to use technology and prefer to use tech - the only problem is, I need to fund it myself at this point. I would like five chrome books for my students to do projects together as they work well in groups but I am lacking technology. This would really help them understand the content and I think would be a great resource.
My students work well with technology and I think exposing them to technology will benefit them greatly for college and beyond.
I am also asking for a printer to print worksheets from directly in my room because I am also a disabled teacher. I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, POTS, MCAS, and getting through the day (especially with COVID right now) is getting progressively more difficult. If I had a printer in my room, I would benefit greatly as would the students. My teaching can only get better if I have more energy.
My Project
My students LOVE doing research projects. These chromebooks will allow them to do even more in class! My students have IEPs and have been hit particularly hard by COVID. They struggle socioeconomically, and recently have even struggled to pay attention in class.
By using chromebooks, I can continue doing research projects with them and prepare them for college or trade school.
This will allow them to be prepared beyond high school and allow them to flourish. I would like for my students to do more research projects - by having chromebooks, I can teach them the proper citation techniques, proper research techniques, and utilize various Google products that they will inevitably be exposed to in college. My students will learn how to navigate scientific resources, pick apart scientific papers, and learn proper scientific citation techniques, in addition to learning proper resources to use off of the internet. In addition, my students can do more virtual labs and explore concepts that might not otherwise be available without chromebooks.
In addition, I am asking for a printer so students can readily print photos for these projects. My students frequently ask to print photographs of something relating to the project and I unfortunately do not have one. This will also help students with projects and presentations - they like to use diagrams in their projects and a printer will assist them greatly. One such project I would like to do with them is analyzing the parts of telescopes, for example - by having a printer we can print the parts and describe the different parts that allow astronomers to see into the stars and analyze how they work. It will assist students with critical thinking and scientific skills.
