Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Math is a tough subject for most students. My students, and most the students in my school, are no exception. Most students need a way to connect with the math without the intimidation. Most of them are very tech savvy, so technology is usually the way to get them to enjoy the math they are learning (or at least find it bearable).
These kids are very hungry for knowledge, but because math is a subject that hasn't been too friendly with them (and most times not friendly with their family members) they do not realize how hungry for math knowledge they are.
Our community is hard-working but low in income. The kids' hearts are huge, but their resources are few. These kids deserve to have the same resources that other communities have.
My Project
Our classroom has begun using google classroom for our assignments and discussions. Currently, the students are using their own personal phones to do this. Not all students have a phone, and the ones who do have a phone do not have unlimited data to fit the app on their phone or data to submit the assignments or discussions.
By getting part of a class set of Chromebooks, these students will be able to complete the work and participate in a collaborative work environment.
We also use a variety of interactive mathematics tools on the internet. Most times I am the only one who has access to these tools, so I project them to the entire class and we use the tool together. With Chromebooks, we can have individual students explore the tools at their level and expertise.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
