This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher in a Title 1, elementary school in the Bronx in an ICT classroom. Being that many children do not have access to computers at home, this makes learning in 2018 somewhat of a challenge. For many, school is a place where they can explore, feel safe, and have the materials that they need to succeed. My co-teacher and I want to provide our students with Chromebooks to vastly improve their learning experience.

We have a wide range of learners in our classroom and each child is unique.

Our school believes in fostering children's natural curiosity through inquiry-based teaching and learning. The children learn in our classroom through inquiry-based, hands-on learning experiences. Every day is new and exciting. We have the best job in the world! When you construct meaning in your own terms, the learning is more powerful. We see these Chromebooks as a valuable tool for not only fostering excitement around engineering and technology, but also for supporting communication and problem solving amongst my students.

My Project

There are many things we would love to do on technology as a teacher, but access to computers at our school is very limited. With these new Chromebooks, we would be able to get more students connected to technology each day. Our students will use these computers to carry out a variety of Internet-based activities to enhance their educational experience. The Chromebooks would allow for enough technology for station work in our classroom during reading, writing, and math. Our students would be able to use to Chromebooks to support publishing their work. These computers will add a new dimension to our students' lessons. The added technology will promote interest in learning, and ultimately increase content knowledge. In addition, the essay writing and peer review using our computers in class will ensure our school's success by enhancing my students' reading, writing, and evaluation skills. As teachers, we want to prepare our students to succeed and feel comfortable navigating technology as we prepare them for the world outside of our classroom. By providing students with these Chromebooks, they will be given this opportunity!
