My students need 12 Chromebooks to build towards a 1:1 initiative in my classroom, which will be used for all subject areas: reading, math, social studies, and science.
Walk into our room and you'll hear keyboards clicking, chat boxes dinging, and YouTube videos playing. Are my students off task? NO! They are using Chromebooks to meet their individual needs, build collaborative skills, and gain the necessary technical knowledge to be successful in the 21st century.
My students are an amazing crew of superheroes.
They range in interests, abilities, and cultural background. Some are athletes, some are strong readers, some struggle in math, and some have a wit quicker than your favorite comedians. However, they all have one thing in common: they are all part of the Mr. B's family.
We work hard to build a strong community in my classroom and technology integration plays a key role in this. We are a Title 1 school and my classroom is an inclusion classroom. My district is a Google for Education domain. My students have access to Drive and Classroom. We use the school's Chromebooks as much as we can, but only have 60 Chromebooks for 500+ students.
My students shine while using Chromebooks. The quietest student becomes a leader in technology while the normal leader learns to accept help from others. All students experience individualized academic learning while utilizing their Chromebooks. Chromebooks impact all of my students in many ways.
My Project
I am requesting 12 Chromebooks to build towards a 1:1 initiative in my classroom, which will be used for all subject areas: reading, math, social studies, and science.
In math, I am planning on switching to a flipped classroom. Under flipping the classroom, a teacher records the explanation of information and students watch the videos at home. However, not all students have access to tech at home. Having Chromebooks always available ensure the students can watch the videos in the morning to be ready for math. Students will also use online programs and other interactive, engaging websites to supplement and scaffold their math instruction.
For Language Arts, my students will utilize the many features in Google for Education, in addition to numerous other resources. They will use Google Docs to create, edit, and collaborate various writing assignments. Google Draw will be used for interactive assessments and the @point extension will be used to prove their understanding.
Interactive slidebooks will be developed by students for social studies and science. Students will also use TourBuilder to visit and create their own explorations of locations.
Technology is changing the way we interact with the world.
Nearly every job has a component to it that requires the worker to have effective use of technology. We must model effective use of technology students from a young age. More importantly, we must make sure they have access to using technology frequently.
As I said, my class is a diverse set of learners. Being 1:1 allows me to differentiate to a higher degree. With Chromebooks, I can meet the needs of all innovators in my room.
