Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are all facing hardship and challenges in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most students are able to at least keep up with their education to some extent through remote learning at home. However, many of our students do not have access to their education because they do not have access to a device to work on. Not a laptop, not a tablet, not even a phone. This is through no fault of their own. I can say with certainty that our students are as resilient, hard-working, and eager to learn as students who live in more prosperous communities.
Our students are inquisitive and eager 9th-12th graders who happen to live in the poorest congressional district in the entire country.
It is just across the river from the richest district in the country. So many of us want to close the income and opportunity gap. You can make a difference. Please help us help our students get access to a device so they can attend online school.
My Project
Given the COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging our school community, our students are trying to engage in their schoolwork at home via remote technology. However, there is a group of students in our school that do not have access to technology for a variety of reasons (their family does not have the money, they have to share with multiple siblings, they are taking care of sick family members, etc). The COVID-19 pandemic has prevented schools from directly ordering and sending Chromebooks to students, which is the safest option.
We are asking for your help to ensure these students have access to technology so they can continue to pursue the education they are entitled to at home by donating to help purchase Chromebooks for our students in need.
