My students are excited to come to school each day and to learn from one another. They enjoy working in collaborative groups and sharing their knowledge with each other. They enjoy using their critical thinking skills to evaluate new information and integrating the arts to show their learning. They get very excited any time we can use technology in the classroom and they aren't afraid to try something new.
Jane Goodall once said, "You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you.
What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." With this quote in mind, I want to help my students become aware of the impact they are having on the world around them.
My Project
Second grade is the perfect time to begin acquiring digital media skills.
Access to technology is important for 21st century learning.
I am requesting 6 Chromebooks with management licenses so that my students can learn how to be effective researchers and producers with digital media. My students will use our Chromebooks in many different ways. They will use them to research different animals that live in the oceans nearby and then create Google slide presentations about these animals. They will also research how our city has changed since it was founded in 1971 and then we will talk about the environmental impact these changes are having on our community. Students will also use the Chromebooks to write poetry for Earth Day and learn to insert images into their final products.
The possibilities for collaboration and communication with a Chromebook are endless. I am hopeful that I can get this technology into my students' hands so they can begin creating amazing things!
