My Students

Each day, first graders depend on me to teach them how to read, write, and develop problem-solving skills that will be the foundation of their education. These students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Their families qualify for free lunch and often do not have the means to provide literature, manipulatives, and other educational tools at home. So, I feel it is my role to provide them with rich learning experiences on a day to day basis.

Due to their backgrounds and limitations in resources at home, my students often enter elementary school significantly behind their more affluent peers.

My Project

Technology is a critical part of modern education as students gravitate toward tablets and computers. Engagement is high when students are able to read books, practice skills, and learn new things with computers.

The majority of my students do not have access to computers at home due to economic issues.

Having access to these individual chromebooks in our classroom will allow students to research new topics, which is an important skill that will follow them throughout their school career. Additionally, students will be able to access websites such as epic, which gives them access to thousands of books. They will also be able to work on a site that provides individualized skill practice in math and ELA.
