"If you can dream it, you can do it." is a philosophy that the learners in my classroom leave with. When they first come to my kindergarten classroom, some of them come with no educational background... they know zero letters, no numbers, they may not even be able to write their own name. We spend time together as a class building an environment where it is encouraged to take chances, explore, and make mistakes. They will be the first to tell you that making mistakes just means you're learning.
Kindergarten students are naturally thinkers and problem solvers when we as teachers allow them to be.
Our students are growing up in a world where technology skills are essential. Yet, unfortunately, when they enter my kindergarten room they are mostly only knowledgeable about tablets and phone devices. Imagine that you are a kindergartener coming into school the second week of school, being handed a Chromebook and told to do your best on the test you are about to take... and you have no idea how to use the Chromebook.
Chromebooks are an essential tool for my students to learn to use in order to be successful the rest of their academic career.
Our students are expected to create, explore, and even test digitally. While we do have a set of iPads in the classroom, some of work and tests are not accessible on our iPads. Our school has carts of Chromebooks at our school that teachers checkout to use in the classrooms. I would love to have just a few to keep in my classroom for students to use and become comfortable with.
I am currently a Google Certified Educator Level 1, working on earning level 2. With your help, I am hoping to be able to implement many of the Google tools within my classroom.
