I am a teacher in a small, elementary, Brooklyn, neighborhood school. I am teaching third grade. My students are from diverse backgrounds and range in academic abilities from non-English speaking students to advanced learners and include general education as well as special education students. My students are heterogeneously grouped. Many of my students face academic struggles and are in need of extra support.
My enthusiastic students are full of energy, love to express themselves, and actively participate in our classroom activities.
They are always ready to go on a new learning adventure. In September, they returned for in-person learning. My students love to learn and are eager to come to school every day.
My goal is to give them the best learning experience and make it a memorable year. My responsibility is to guide my students to become more independent to prepare for the rest of their academics. I believe the more engaged my students are, the better outcomes they will have.
My Project
Learning in the classroom has changed since the pandemic. All students were given devices for remote learning. However, some of these devices are not working properly with certain programs and work at slow speeds. Also, some students received iPads while others received Chromebooks. Going forward with the technology component of the current programs we use in class Chromebooks work best.
Having a few devices on hand for students to borrow while completing their individualized instruction is valuable in the classroom.
Although instruction is happening in person there is still technology-based instruction on a daily basis.
My school is implementing a new individualized program for students to use throughout the day to focus on their specific needs. Most of my students bring their devices daily. However, children at times forget their devices, the battery is dead, or the device needs repair and there is a need to borrow a device.
Having a few Chromebooks available for these emergencies is crucial in my classroom so that instructional and the flow of the day does not get interrupted.
