We are a 6th-8th grade school, with approximately 550 students in a low-income community. I teach 6th-grade social studies and have approximately 85 students.
Despite going through challenges every day, our students continue to show immense growth inside and outside of the classroom.
Our students are creative, bright, and resilient. They come in every day asking questions and ready to build their knowledge. Our students love to learn, but I know they could do so much more given the appropriate resources.
In the past few years, technology has become a daily part of lesson plans. Teachers incorporate technology into their lessons by using them for visual aids, research stations, independent learning, and engagement.
Currently, our social studies classrooms do not have daily access to technology resources such as laptops, iPads, and tablets.
It is difficult to stay up-to-date and incorporate technology into your lessons with very minimal resources. If we receive the Chromebooks, we will use them to incorporate technology stations in our social studies classrooms. This will give students an opportunity to stay engaged, build research strategies, become independent learners, and collaborate with peers.
