My Students

In Baltimore City Public Schools, students do not receive the same support as their county counterparts. In light of COVID-19, these inequities have been exacerbated. My students are curious, creative, bright, and love challenges. However, this is an unnecessary and inequitable challenge. Without technology, it makes it nearly impossible to continue quality learning opportunities.

They are trying, but it's difficult to type a research paper on your phone!

Having technology will bring them into the 21st century and give them a chance to compete with their peers. Imagine conducting research, finding proper sources, composing an outline, typing a rough copy, revising, and editing all on a phone (most likely with a cracked screen)?

Most of my students are in the 21215 zip code of Baltimore City, which has the highest rate of COVID-19 cases in the city. Usually, they would go to a friend's to complete their work. However, now their resources are limited to what they have in their house at this time. I told them I would work something out for them or try to find a computer for them to use.

Well, here I am. I figured one student at a time.

My Project

With our current situation, students are learning through remote instruction. Fortunately, companies around us are helping with hotspots, so they can access the internet. Unfortunately, many of our students do not have the devices necessary to access the internet.

Help me make remote instruction equitable for our students.

Currently, students without technology are completing packets. By donating to this project, you will be giving students an opportunity to learn proper grammar, read amazing e-books, apply math concepts, visualize science, learn about history and government, follow along with physical education videos, and so much more!

Chromebooks will help to meet the needs of our diverse learners. Students will be able to access their Google Classrooms, ask their teachers questions in real-time, utilize apps like Calm to reduce stress and anxiety and engage in their learning with websites like Gen I Revolution, an online personal finance game, to increase their understanding of financial literacy or PhET simulations to learn about science phenomena, among many others.

When we return to regular instruction, this Chromebook will be used in classrooms for research, projects, and more!
