My Students

We have a school culture centered on learning and we are committed to ensuring high levels of learning for all students. Our Bulldog PRIDE (Perseverance, Relationships, Innovation, Dedication, Excellence) means that we cultivate a collaborative culture among students and teachers. My goal is to prepare my students to be successful after high school, whether it be college or career. I've committed to providing for my students challenging and relevant learning experiences. Each one of my students is a creative, enthusiastic, and hard-working scientists!

They love questioning the world around them and want to solve the problems of today and tomorrow in the laboratory!

We all know our world is ever changing and advancing each day. However my students are unable to access the technology our current world is engulfed in. To be successful in life after high school, my students need to be computer literate.

My Project

Chromebooks would give all 183 of my students access to the technology that encompasses today's world. A result of this will be increased computer literacy and further experimentation.

Despite the increasing importance of computer skills, it can be difficult to acquire them if you don't own a computer.

Many students think they are technology literate simply because they Snapchat and go on Instagram everyday. This is simply not true. They do not have the skills to write an appropriate email, create a simple spreadsheet with formulas, or even type with efficiency. My hope is to teach my students these skills and thus increase their computer literacy. After they graduate, they will be able to translate these skills into post-secondary schooling or even careers.

As a public school, we are often limited on funds. With having Chromebooks and internet access, the students are able to use online resources to expand our curriculum. For example, Phet Simulations has a vast quantity of free online science simulations. Due to budgets and availability of equipment, sometimes we can’t do a lab on a certain topic. However, because of PhET and other online resources we are able to do more experiments on the computer. This shifts more classroom time from teacher driven lectures to hands on student engagement.

Having Chromebooks in our classroom will also help foster both collaboration and community in Room F10! With starting off with only a few Chromebooks, the students will have to share within their lab group, requiring students to work together to get answers or construct a project. A sense of community will also blossom from this. When the students get their own property in a classroom, they begin to feel ownership over that object and will take care of it. It helps to teach them responsibility.
